The Toronto Tempo (10-13) snapped their four-game losing streak today with a thrilling 93-91 victory over the New York Liberty (13-11) in their second regular-season matchup at Montreal’s Bell Centre.

Game Summary

Toronto established control early, building up a 10-point lead in the first quarter, though New York mounted a quick 11-2 run in the second to tie the game at 26. After a strong finish to the first half, the Tempo exploded in the third quarter behind a dominant performance from Marina Mabrey, stretching their lead to as much as 20 points.

The Liberty roared back in the fourth quarter, chipping away at the deficit until they tied the game at 91 with under a minute remaining. However, Nyara Sabally quickly answered with a clutch layup to put Toronto back on top—a bucket that ultimately sealed the win.

Key Performances

Marina Mabrey (TOR): Game-high 30 points (including 12 points in the third quarter alone) to lead the offensive charge.

Sabrina Ionescu (NYL): Carried the Liberty’s comeback efforts with 28 points, though it wasn’t quite enough to complete the turnaround.

Nyara Sabally (TOR): Scored the game-winning layup in the final minute.

Notable Team Stats & Takeaways

Transition Dominance: Toronto completely outpaced New York on the break, outscoring them 24-2 in fastbreak points.

Three-Point Shooting: The Tempo shot 37.5% from beyond the arc, nearly doubling the efficiency of a struggling Liberty squad.

Glass Struggles: Despite being heavily outrebounded—a metric that usually spells trouble for Toronto (they entered the game 2-13 when losing the rebound battle)—they managed to hold on for the win.
