The Toronto Maple Leafs wrapped up the 2026 NHL Prospect Challenge in Gatineau, Quebec, splitting their two games.
Toronto lost a dramatic 4-3 overtime decision to Ottawa before bouncing back with an impressive 6-4 victory over Winnipeg.
Game 1: Senators 4, Maple Leafs 3 — OT
Toronto opened the tournament Saturday against Ottawa and appeared poised to escape with a victory after taking a 3-2 lead late in regulation.
Ottawa’s Jaxon Cover changed the game. He helped bring the Senators level late before scoring the overtime winner himself, finishing an end-to-end rush to give Ottawa the 4-3 victory.
Final: Ottawa 4, Toronto 3 (OT)
Despite the loss, Toronto showed plenty of offensive ability and competed well against a strong Senators prospect group.
Game 2: Maple Leafs 6, Jets 4
Toronto responded in impressive fashion Sunday, defeating Winnipeg 6-4.
The Leafs received goals from Vinny Borgesi, Nic Whitehead and Brody Pepoy, while Tinus Luc Koblar was one of the offensive catalysts with three assists.
Goaltender Patriks Plumins also turned in an important performance. Winnipeg pushed hard during the final stages, but Plumins made several key saves to preserve the Toronto victory.
Winnipeg’s power play was dangerous, producing three goals, but Toronto’s overall offensive pressure ultimately proved decisive.

Tinus Luc Koblar
Three assists against Winnipeg and excellent playmaking ability.
Patriks Plumins
Strong tournament-ending performance and particularly important late against Winnipeg.
Vinny Borgesi
One of Toronto’s most intriguing young defencemen and a goal scorer in the win.
Brody Pepoy
Scored against Winnipeg and provided valuable offensive energy.
Ben Danford
His defensive game stood out, with strong positioning, stick work and puck movement.
Gavin McKenna watch
The biggest name in Toronto’s prospect system, Gavin McKenna, did not play in either Prospect Challenge game. He participated in preparation before the tournament and is now moving toward Maple Leafs main training camp.
Final Assessment
Toronto: 1-1
The results were less important than the evaluation process, and the weekend provided encouraging signs. The Leafs showed offensive depth, improved defensive play and goaltending, particularly in Sunday’s comeback effort.
With McKenna preparing for NHL camp and several other prospects making strong impressions, Toronto heads into training camp with renewed optimism about its young talent.
