Argos 24, Elks 19 — Toronto Clinches Playoff Berth
TORONTO — The Toronto Argonauts punched their ticket to the 2026 CFL playoffs Saturday afternoon, holding off the Edmonton Elks 24-19 at BMO Field in a tense Week 16 battle.
The victory improved Toronto to 8-6 and secured a postseason berth and a home playoff game. Edmonton fell to 10-4.
First Quarter — Argos Strike Early
Toronto wasted little time getting on the scoreboard.
After Edmonton opened with a 33-yard field goal from Vincent Blanchard, quarterback Chad Kelly answered with a two-play, 70-yard touchdown drive, finding Kevin Mital on a 14-yard touchdown pass.
Lirim Hajrullahu later added a 19-yard field goal, giving Toronto a 10-3 advantage.
Edmonton answered with a long drive capped by Cody Fajardo’s one-yard touchdown run, tying the game 10-10.
Second Quarter — Kelly Takes Control
Kelly produced another big play midway through the second quarter, connecting with Dymere Miller for a 19-yard touchdown to put Toronto ahead 17-10.
Blanchard’s 18-yard field goal cut the margin to 17-13 at halftime.
Kelly was particularly impressive despite appearing to struggle physically. He went to the medical tent after limping following his first touchdown pass but returned to action. He also took a shot to his right hand during the first half.
Third Quarter — Elks Fight Back

Blanchard kicked a 16-yard field goal to make it 17-16, setting up a dramatic fourth quarter.
The game also became increasingly physical. Edmonton defensive back Chelen Garnes was ejected following an altercation with Mital, while several players received unnecessary-roughness or objectionable-conduct penalties.
Fourth Quarter — Toronto Survives
The decisive play came when an Edmonton mishandled snap resulted in a fumble.
Toronto defensive lineman Ralph Holley scooped up the loose ball and raced 55 yards for a touchdown, extending the Argos’ lead to 24-16 with 8:11 remaining.
Edmonton refused to go quietly.
Blanchard connected from 19 yards to make it 24-19, and the Elks mounted another long drive.
Edmonton eventually reached the Toronto 21-yard line with a chance to take the lead. But with 19 seconds remaining, Toronto defensive back Tarvarus McFadden intercepted Fajardo in the end zone, sealing the Argonauts’ playoff-clinching victory.

Holley’s fumble return: The 55-yard defensive touchdown gave the Argos enough breathing room to withstand Edmonton’s late comeback.
McFadden’s interception: With Edmonton threatening at the Toronto 21, McFadden’s end-zone pick ended the Elks’ final possession and clinched the victory.
Toronto answered its earlier 42-12 loss to Edmonton with a dramatically different performance, overcoming a strong Elks team and making the critical plays late.
The Argonauts are now 8-6, officially playoff-bound, and will host a postseason game. Their next regular-season game is September 25 at Winnipeg.
