Blue Jays prevail to a 4-1 win over the Orioles behind stellar performance from Alek Manoah
The Toronto Blue Jays finished their series against the Baltimore Orioles with a 4-1 win, taking three of the four games. There were many factors as to how Toronto could come away with a win but Alek Manoah was sensational on the mound.
The Blue Jays are still on their push to become a postseason team and these wins only help further their cause. Manoah retired 22 of his final 23 hitters in an extraordinary eight-inning outing.
In the fifth inning, things started to flow for Toronto as they scored three times. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. made it 2-1 with an RBI groundout giving the Blue Jays the advantage. With Bo Bichette on base, Alejandro Kirk hit a single to left field that brought Bichette to home plate making it 3-1. Topped off by an error by Orioles rookie catcher Adley Rutschman, Kirk would score himself and extend the lead to 4-1.
There was obviously some animosity surrounding these teams even though they won't admit it amidst the bench-clearing that happened the game before. However, it was the Blue Jays who were able to respond accordingly and take this game in a convincing fashion, and it was due to Manoah's exceptional pitching that gave Baltimore no sliver of hope of breaking through in this game.
Toronto will get a day off and are back in action for their first game in their upcoming series against the Texas Rangers on Friday at 8:05 PM ET.
