905 Drop Heartbreaker to the Magic

Raptors 905 (14-15), the NBA G League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors, dropped a heartbreaker to the Lakeland Magic (16-13) 111-112 Saturday afternoon. The 905 were led by Sterling Brown who contributed a career-high 27 points, along with four rebounds, six assists, and a career-high five steals. The Magic had Zavier Simpson post 18 points, six rebounds, two assists, and the game-winning basket in the victory. 

The two teams opened the ball game exchanging baskets back-and-forth; before the 905 took the three-point advantage after 12. The 905 continued to build off their momentum, opening the second on an 18-6 run before the Magic closed the quarter on a 27-10 run, taking a two-point lead going into the break.  

The 905 regained control of the game in the third quarter going on a 12-3 run to open the half, holding onto the nine-point lead going into the final frame. The visitors mounted their comeback bid in the fourth, as a six-foot jump shot from Simpson tied the game with 26.4 remaining. Brown responded with a quick layup before a three from Simpson sealed the victory for the Magic. 

Darryl Morsell paced the 905 in his first career start with 17 points, six rebounds, three assists, a steal, and a block. Lakeland received complementary scoring from Drake Jeffries who added 19 points, six rebounds, and two steals.  

The Raptors 905 host the College Park Skyhawks in their final home game of the regular season, Tuesday at 7:30 pm while the Magic return home to host the Long Island Nets Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
