The BlackJacks Upset The Stars On Their Home Turf
This marks game number nine for The Scarborough Shooting Stars. With their record sitting at 5-4 enterting the game, this game was an important one. Not only for the standings but also for the team's confidence.
The Shooting Stars started the game on a 15-0 run against the 9th place Ottawa BlackJacks, The BlackJacks didn’t put up a bucket until the last four minutes of the first quarter.
The Toronto native, Calvin Epistola, entered the game draining a “logo three ball” giving the Stars a lead of 22-6 to end the first quarter and ended the game with 8 pts.
League Superstar, Jalen Harris amped up by the crowd to kick off the second quarter with a two-handed jam. Zena Edosomwan responded by finishing a two-handed alley-oop of his own a few moments later.
After twenty minutes of play, the Scarborough Shooting Stars kept their lead. Scarborough’s Jalen Harris leads the team with 13 pts and Ottawa’s Deng Adel leads the BlackJacks with 10pts at the half. Adel to the line. Adel formally played for the G Leagues’ Maine Celtics and leads the team in points per game with 19.1 and leads the league in three-point percentage with 56.8%. Adel tied teammate Walt Lemon Jr. for a team high 20 pts.
Coming back from the halftime break, you thought that the game was going to continue in the way it started-with The Stars' taking adavate of Ottawa and showing no moercty... but that quickly changed come the fourth quarter.
Ottawa picked up their socks and brought out their energizer bunny because they went on a 20-3 run to outscore the Stars' and ended up winning the game 91-90. Scarbrbough was stuck at 90 for over 3 possessioans and Otttawa's Tyrell Green took advanteg of that and hit back-to-back three balls securing the win for the BlackJacks. This was an unbelievebale turn of events and the home team was up by as many as 15pts.
I caught up with Tyrell after the game and he said he dedicates this win to his father who has passed and he felt his precence in the gym tonight.
The Shooting Stars now have a record of 5-5 with their next game on Friday, July, 1st in Fraser Valley against the Bandits who sit pretty in first place. Tip-off is at 7:30 pm PT.
