Kansas City wins and advances to Week 3
The Defense carried them
The surprising start of the Super Bowl defense season continues as the Kansas City Chiefs travelled to Duvall and played shaky at best in two phases of the game, Offense and Special Teams while playing a stellar Defensive game against a quality Jacksonville Jaguars Offense that put up 31 points in a week 1 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Freshly signed Chris Jones offically returned as the Mayor of Sack Nation and led the DLine to a game changing effort that had Tevor Lawrence under pressure the whole game with 4 sacks and multiple passes defelected which is impressive considering Lawerence checks in at 6 feet 6, which makes it really hard to block his passes. The Chiefs D held the Jags to Field Goals and forced punts throughout the game where the Offense or Special Teams had left them in bad posistions.
Including a key sequence where the Defense forced a Jaguars punt only to be met by a Punt Return effort by Richie James that looked like something from a bad Kansas City Royals Outfielder as he turned his head left to look for the ball only to have it bounce off of his helmet and shoulder pads to the right to set the Jags up in the Red Zone. Holding them to a Field Goal on that possesion was a huge part of the Chiefs winning a game where they lost the Turnover battle and had 10 more penalties than the Jaguars.
The real question after this "Win and Advance" game is how much better can they play? If last year is a gauge a lot better since it was about the same time in the season that they lost to a bad Colts team thanks to Turnovers, Penalties and bad Special Teams play. So at least they won this one. The Wide Recievers including Skyy Moore looked better, they did run the ball some in the second half and Travis Kelce was on the field and a caught a Touchdown.
Next week brings on the seemingly hapless Chicago Bears followed by a visit to the now Zach Wilson led New York Jets so it is time to get healthy and enjoy the time to get the other two phases in gear.
3 and 1 is looking pretty good in this year's AFC and today was a nice Birthday present for Patrick Mahomes who gets to celebrate a win as they travel back to KC.
