Game Preview: Leafs play Red Wings in NHL Global Series
The Toronto Maple Leafs (8-5-2) return to the ice this afternoon in Stockholm, Sweden, at Avicii Arena, for a matchup against the Detroit Red Wings (8-5-3) in the NHL Global Series.
Toronto played last Saturday, where they won 5-2 over the Vancouver Canucks.
Maple Leafs forward William Nylander comes to his home country on a 15-game point streak. He says he will have 90-100 family and friends at the game.
Toronto will look to push their winning streak to three games.
This will be Toronto’s first game in Europe since 2003.
Detroit comes into the game on a back-to-back following a 5-4 loss to the Ottawa Senators in overtime after trailing 4-0.
Leafs defenseman John Klingberg will not be in the lineup due to an undisclosed injury that has been bothering him.
Ilya Samsonov will be the starter in the net for Toronto. He supports a 3-1-2 record with a 3.79 GAA and a .870 save percentage.
Alex Lyon is the confirmed starter for the Red Wings since starter Ville Husso is away from the team as he and his wife welcomed a baby girl.
The puck drop will be at 2:00 p.m. on TSN 4.
