The Toronto Maple Leafs improved to 6-1-1 against the Calgary Flames in their last eight meetings with a 2-1 defensive showcase.

Both netminders had solid performances. Jakob Markstrom made 32 saves, but it was Joseph Woll in his third game this season who got his second win with 25 stops.

However, it was the Flames that got things started. Blake Coleman scored his second short-handed goal of the season on a breakaway. New addition Erik Gustafsson got caught on the blueline after the puck bounced over his stick springing Coleman.

Mitch Marner answered back for the Leafs in the second period off a fantastic individual effort. Marner was In on the last three goals for the Leafs also scoring in the game against Edmonton yesterday.

In the third it was Calle Jarnkrok to score the lone goal and eventual winner for the Buds.

Luke Schenn made his first appearance with the team since April 2012. He looked solid to start his second stint with the team. Schenn was a +/- 1 with four hits and two blocks in just over 10 minutes.

It was a solid defensive game for head coach Sheldon Keefe’s lineup who elected to roll with 11 forwards and seven defence.

Toronto continues their road trip and head to Vancouver for a matchup against the Canucks Saturday.

TOR Scoring: Marner (22), Jarnkrok (13)

CGY Scoring: Coleman SH (14)
