UFC 271 takes place tonight, live from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The event will be headlined by the highly anticipated rematch between UFC Middleweight champion ‘The Last Stylebender’ Israel Adesanya and former UFC Middleweight champion Robert ‘The Reaper’ Whittaker. The champion will look to continue his reign and cement his legacy as one of the UFC’s greatest champions.

Since defeating Whittaker at UFC 243 to become the new UFC Middleweight champion, ‘The Last Stylebender’ has successfully retained his title on three occasions. He defeated Yoel Romero at UFC 248, Paulo Costa at UFC 253, and Marvin Vettori at UFC 263.

The rematch between will also answer plenty of questions. During their first encounter at UFC 243, ‘The Last Stylebender’ showcased his elite-level striking on his way to a second-round knockout win. Adesanya is hoping 2022 will be a bounce back year of sorts because he felt 2021 was lackluster year for his standards.

During the pre-fight press conference, the reigning Middleweight champion mentioned that he felt in his last fight and that he’s looking forward to having fun again when he fights Whittaker.

‘The Reaper’ has shown plenty of improvements since losing the title and earned a rematch after three-straight unanimous decision wins over Kelvin Gastelum, Jared Cannonier, and Darren Till.

It’ll be interesting to see if Whittaker attempts to use a similar gameplan as former UFC Light-Heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz did when he handed Adesanya the first loss of his career last year. If he’s able to regain the title, perhaps the UFC will book a trilogy bout as they’d both have a win over each other in a title fight.
