Jordan Perruzza is looking to take advantage of his opportunity in the Canadian Premier League.
Toronto FC sent the 22-year-old striker on loan to CPL club HFX Wanderers, where he will receive a lot more minutes in the starting-XI and a more significant role. The loan move will allow him the opportunity to improve and develop good habits as a striker and help the Wanderers' push for a playoff spot.
While speaking with Perruzza on Vibe 105.5FM Toronto, he opened up about the loan to Halifax and how it came about. He mentioned that he was dealing with some uncertainty during the past two seasons at Toronto FC and described the situation he was in as a young player on the roster.
"I've been in a position where I've been fighting for opportunity and minutes at Toronto for the last two years I'd say. And obviously, it's not the easiest of challenges to go into training and be in an environment where there are no guarantees in terms of what each matchday would look like; if you're gonna be on the roster, if you're gonna be on the bench, if you're gonna be starting."
He mentioned that the uncertainty he had been dealing with during the past two seasons at Toronto FC led to him questioning where he fit on the depth chart. He mentioned that he believed a change would be best for his development at the moment and is grateful for the opportunity he received with Halifax, saying
"I was looking for a place that would benefit me and I'd find a real rythm to end off the season because last season, I was kind of debating what would be best for me and I thought that would be staying at TFC and try to earn my opportunities and I was following the same type of path this year and I felt like I needed to just get a little bit of a change of scenery to have a new challenge. That's what made the decision."
Perruzza confirmed that the duration of the loan deal with HFX is only for the remainder of the CPL season. It remains to be seen whether the Woodbridge native will be able to find his scoring touch in the CPL and become a fixture in Toronto FC's plans in 2024.
