York United Shut Out Cavalry to Extend Winning Streak to Two Straight
York United FC extended their winning streak to two-straight wins as they defeated Cavalry 1-0. In addition, the win was also their second-straight in which they kept a clean sheet, which is a positive sign for Martin Nash's side as they look to continue building momentum in the CPL standings.
It was an aggressive start to the match as the referee was already in a situation where he had to issue a warning to players for some of their tackles. Despite the tackles and warnings, there were no yellow cards shown.
York got on the scoresheet in the 24th minute after Osaze De Rosario received the ball and took a touch to lay it off to Clement Bayiha, who showcased his dribbling by maneuvering around Cavalry goalkeeper Marco Carducci and strking the ball in the back of the net.
Austin Ricci was excellent for York in the first half. He was a strong presence off the wing and provided assistance to on the defensive end as he constatly tracked back and broke up plays.
Niko Giantsopoulos came up with a big save at the end of the first half, which ensured that York maintained their 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Cavalry began the second half with more urgency as they even when they had found openings in York's defense, their centre-back duo of Tass Mourdoukoutas and Paris Gee bailed the team out with their timely challenges and blocks.
The Nine Stripes were close to doubling their lead off a set-piece play in the 75th minute, but Carducci got made the save on Lassana Faye's free-kick, to send it out for a York corner-kick.
The match was the second of a double header as there was a League1 fixture between Woodbridge Strikers and Vaughan SC.
