Money in the Bank Moments: Edge wins the first-ever Money in the Bank Ladder Match
Who would have thought that a briefcase that hangs above a wrestling ring with 6-8 wrestlers fighting in a ladder match would become so huge? Through the years of wrestling, we have seen some incredible Ladder Matches from Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon, Triple H vs. The Rock and Jeff Hardy vs. The Undertaker, to name a few.
In 2005 the WWE tried something new at Wrestlemania 21. They announced the Money in the Bank Ladder match, where six superstars fought to earn an opportunity for a match against a World Champion of their choosing at any place or anywhere for one year.
The first Money in the Bank match included Edge, Chris Benoit, Kane, Chris Jericho, Shelton Benjamin and Christian. This is the match that started everything. These six men put their bodies on the line in this match; they went out there and put on a fantastic performance for the WWE fans.
The Money in the Bank match builds mid-carders into main-event superstars. Edge was slowly turning into the company's top heel, and he was the perfect choice to win this match, and he did.
Edge would go on to hold the briefcase for nine months. He cashed the briefcase in at the New Year's Revolution show, pinning John Cena after he was in a brutal Elimination Chamber match.
Edge made his mark in the first Money in the Bank match and became the ultimate opportunist because of this victory.
