Bianca Belair vs. Bayley, Seth Rollins vs. Matt Riddle Matches Set for Extreme Rules

Opening Matches

Tonight WWE RAW is live from the SAP Center in San Jose, California, home of the San Francisco 49ers.

The show opens with Seth "Freakin" Rollins vs. Bobby Lashely for the United States Championship Title. After escaping a long hold in the Hurt Lock by Bobby, Rollins loses to Bobby after Riddle comes out and distracts him.

Cameras then switch to show Bayley, Iyo Sky, and Dakota Kai (Damage Ctrl) backstage pulling up in a limo. Damage Ctrl comes out in a souped-up golf cart.

Damage Ctrl’s Bayley calls out Bianca, who comes out with Asuka and Alexa.  The confrontation ends with Bayley getting attacked after a tense back-and-forth segment with Bianca.

After a commercial break, up next is Austin Theory vs. Kevin Owens. Owens defeats Theory with a vicious powerbomb after he gets distracted by Johnny Gargano appearing ringside, and taunting him with the Money in The Bank briefcase.

After Owens leaves the ring, Gargano brings the briefcase to the center of the ring and drops it directly onto Theory’s chest.

Another noteworthy incident during this match is that someone in the crowd appears with a large QR code on a poster. According to keen-eyed Twitter users, this QR code appeared at 9:23pm and is allegedly alluding to a possible Bray Wyatt return on September 23rd (SmackDown).

We now get a backstage interview with Riddle.  Riddle says he’s going to “help Rey Mysterio get that sweet sweet vengeance against Judgement Day”.

Setting up Roman Reigns vs. Logan Paul at Crown Jewel

A video segment shows Logan Paul calling out Roman on his show ImPAULsive, and then again later on SmackDown 9-16-22. We are also shown the ensuring press conference where HHH announces that Roman Reigns will face Logan Paul match to headline Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. The match will be for the Undisputed Universal Championship.

Next, The Brawling Brutes' Butch and Ridge Holland come out to cut a promo, but are promptly interrupted by The Street Profits.

The Street Profits cut a promo challenging the Brawling Brutes. A fired-up Street Profits face-off against Butch and Ridge Holland with the Brawlin' Brutes coming out on top.

Rey Mysterio and Matt Riddle vs. Judgement Day

Rey Mysterio cuts a backstage promo about Dominik needing to “find his way back”

Riddle comes out to support him and encourage him in this match they are doing together.

Next, we get a backstage segment with Alpha Academy lamenting Theory’s loss to Owens earlier in the night. Alpha Academy challenges Owens and Gargano to a match next week.

Judgement Day comes out and cuts a promo, but Dominik is getting MASSIVE crowd heat. Rey Mysterio and Riddle interrupt the promo (mercifully). Rollins interferes by taking a shot at Riddle, costing Riddle and Rey the match. Judgement Day wins, but there's more to come.

After the commercial break, we see officials breaking up a backstage fight between Riddle and Rollins. Rollins challenges Riddle, and it's announced that it’s going to be Rollins vs. Riddle in a Fight Pit match at Extreme Rules.

Dexter Lumix Continues to Terrorize The Miz

The Miz cuts a promo, and as he’s calling Dexter Lumis out, we see a HUGE knife blade cutting up from the bottom of the ring.

Dexter Lumis pops out and tries to drag Miz and Ciampa down with him, but they fight him off and run out of the ring.

The segment ends with Lumis standing in the hole he’s cut into the bottom of the ring looking menacing and deranged.

We hear from a backstage interview segment with Judgement Day; AJ Styles is back and and Finn confronts him.

Main Event: Alexa Bliss Vs. Bayley

Alexa Bliss goes up against Bayley, unsuccessfully. The show closes out with Damage Ctrl laying waste to Alexa Bliss, Asuka, and Bianca. Damage Ctrl comes out on top. Bayley finally formally challenges Bianca to a title match, saying “I get what I want when I want it and I want the Raw Women’s Championship at Extreme Rules”.

Summary and Analysis

Extreme Rules is set to be an action-packed event, as is Crown Jewel. This episode featured alot of storytelling and hint-dropping, as we still don't know who exactly the QR codes and "White Rabbit" song being played for the live crowd are hinting at. Many WWE fans believe it's signaling the long-awaited return of Bray Wyatt, while still others pointed out the hourglass visible within the QR code videos and think that it's alluding to Karrion Kross ("tick tock"). Either way, members of the WWE Universe will have to wait to see how this plays out.
