Blue Jays move Trevor Richards to Minnesota

The Toronto Blue Jays traded reliever Trevor Richards to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for utility player Jay Harry.

Harry, 22, was selected in the 6th round of the 2023 MLB Draft out of Penn State University. He has spent all of 2024 with High-A Cedar Rapids, batting .214 with a .655 OPS, to go along with 8 homers and 39 RBIs.

In the field, Harry has played second base, shortstop, third base and even in the outfield, though he has logged the majority of his innings at second.

Richards was acquired via a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers back in 2021 and has been a big asset in Toronto’s pitching staff in the four years he spent with the Blue Jays. However, Richards has struggled lately, pitching to a 13.06 ERA in his last 10 appearances.

Richards, 31, has pitched in 45 games this year for the Blue Jays, compiling a 2-1 record with a 4.64 ERA, striking out 49 in 52 1/3 innings. His 52 1/3 innings lead Toronto’s relief pitchers.

In the four years he spent in Toronto, Richards pitched to a 11-6 record, a 4.75 ERA, to go along with 273 strikeouts in 221 2/3 innings.
