It has been nearly a month since the Toronto Blue Jays have won back-to-back series after beating the San Francisco Giants 5-3, though the wins are coming a little too late.
Toronto has already been linked to trading many players who are becoming free agents, and one is likely to leave soon. During today’s game, Kevin Kiermaier was placed on revocable waivers, according to Joel Sherman of The Post.
Kiermaier signed a one-year, 10.5 million dollar deal with Toronto, and cutting a few million of the outfielder’s contract would put the ballclub closer to the luxury threshold.
Kiermaier has had a disappointing season, but he did make a great diving play in the fourth off the bat of ex-teammate Matt Chapman and collected two hits.
Speaking of former teammates, Jordan Hicks, Giants SP, who has converted from a reliever to a starter and has found success in his new role, posting a 3.47 ERA.
Hicks didn’t enjoy his time seeing Toronto again, as in 4.1 innings pitched, Hicks allowed five earned runs on eight hits.
Toronto got tho early runs on a groundout and sacrifice fly before Danny Jansen belted a ball over the left field wall at Oracle Park, giving the Jays an early 3-0 lead.
After the Giants scored two, Leo Jimenez drove in his first run on a double, putting the Jays up 4-2.
Jimenez’s RBI would end up being the game-winning run, as the infielder has an impressive .900 OPS to start his MLB career.
Spencer Horwitz hit a ball into the Bay, and Toronto gave SP Kevin Gausman five runs to play with as the former Giant dazzled in San Francisco.
Gausman went 7.0 innings, only allowing two earned runs on six hits. Gausman, in his last two starts, has gone 13.0 innings, giving up four earned runs in that span.
Making their final stop on the west coast swing, Toronto will take on the Arizona Diamondbacks starting Friday night.
