The Toronto Blue Jays returned home to Rogers Centre from April 10 to April 12, 2026 for a three game set against the Minnesota Twins, and honestly this series felt like a snapshot of the entire season so far…
A little bit of everything. One explosive win. Two frustrating losses, and unfortunately… more injuries.
As a fan who watched this team come within reach of a championship last year, this stretch leaves you feeling excited one moment and concerned the next.
Game One April 10
Blue Jays 10 Twins 4
This is the version of the Jays we all believe in. Toronto exploded offensively and put together their most complete game in a while. The bats came alive in a huge way, highlighted by a five run fourth inning that completely flipped the game.
- Brandon Valenzuela had a moment he will never forget, blasting his first career MLB home run to give the Jays the lead.
- Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was all over the field with three hits and an RBI.
- Davis Schneider added two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI.
- Daulton Varsho chipped in with a home run as part of a deep offensive effort.
Nine of Toronto’s hits went for extra bases and the lineup looked dangerous from top to bottom. For one night, everything clicked.
Game Two April 11
Twins 7 Blue Jays 4
This is where things started to turn. Minnesota blew the game open with a seven run third inning, powered by a big swing from Trevor Larnach who launched a three run home run. Brooks Lee also added a home run as the Twins lineup jumped all over Toronto pitching. The bigger story though was not just the loss. It was the moment the entire stadium went quiet…
George Springer fouled a ball off his foot and stayed in the game briefly before exiting. That injury was later confirmed as a fractured big toe. Toronto tried to respond offensively.
- Daulton Varsho gave an early spark with a home run.
- Jesús Sánchez added late offense as the Jays pushed late.
Still, the damage from that third inning was too much to overcome.
Game Three April 12
Twins 8 Blue Jays 2
Sunday felt like a grind. Minnesota jumped on Toronto early again and never really let up.
Tristan Gray hit a three run home run and Kody Clemens added another as the Twins built a big lead.
On the mound, it was a tough outing for Max Scherzer, who allowed eight runs in just over two innings as the Twins lineup stayed hot.
There were still a couple bright spots for Toronto:
- Ernie Clement had a strong day with three hits and two runs scored.
- Eloy Jiménez, called up after the Springer injury, contributed with two hits in his debut.
Still, the overall feeling was frustration as the Jays dropped the series.
Updated Injury List
This is where things are getting concerning…
The Blue Jays placed George Springer on the 10 day injured list with a fractured toe after that foul ball against Minnesota.
He joins a growing list of injuries that is starting to impact this team in a real way.
- Alejandro Kirk fractured thumb
- Addison Barger ankle injury
- Cody Ponce knee injury
- José Berríos arm issues
- Shane Bieber arm issues
That is a significant portion of the roster already dealing with injuries early in the season.
So Are We Off To As Good Of A Start?
If you are being honest as a fan, probably not.
There are flashes of what this team can be. Game one of this series showed that clearly. The offense can explode, the lineup is deep, and when things click it looks like a contender again. At the same time, consistency is not there yet.
The record is hovering around the .500 mark and the team has now dropped multiple series early. Injuries are starting to pile up and forcing adjustments all over the lineup and pitching staff, and yet… there is still belief.
Players like Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Andrés Giménez, Davis Schneider, Daulton Varsho, and Kazuma Okamoto are still capable of carrying this team on any given night.
The biggest question right now is health and timing. If this group can get healthy and find a rhythm, the ceiling is still very high. If not, April could turn into a tougher stretch than anyone expected.
For now, it feels like a team still searching for its identity after coming so close to winning it all last year and maybe that is part of the journey back.
