On Friday, the Toronto Maple Leafs announced they re-signed defenceman Simon Benoit to a three-year contract extension at $1.3 million.
Benoit signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Maple Leafs in August. At the end of the season, he was set to become a restricted free agent.
The 25-year-old has been a steady player on the Maple Leafs defence this season, blocking 82 shots and having 205 hits. In 54 games, he has one goal and four assists. Benoit logs 16:55 of ice time per game.
Benoit is in his first season with Toronto after spending three seasons in the Anaheim Ducks organization.
