Toronto FC just can’t seem to catch a break this season and their woes continued on Saturday as Kacper Przybylko scored in stoppage time to secure the win and three-points at home for the Chicago Fire.
Toronto have been shutout in three consecutive matches, which is surely disappointing as some players have been relied on more following the latest roster moves and the club’s Designated Players being out of the lineup. To make matters worse, tonight’s loss to Chicago extended their losing streak to 6-straight matches.
TFC’s interim head coach Terry Dunfield noted that there have been noticeable improvements in training, but they haven’t been rewarded for their efforts during their matches.
“We do need to score and start winning games,” said Dunfield post-match.
“We are now getting to good spots and the picture is clear for our players, and it’s a little bit of decision-making, it’s a little bit of sharpness and some work on the training ground. But it’s no longer random. You’re starting to see our ID come out. I’m proud of our work. And again, tonight, I believe we had 11 or 12 shots and half of them were on target,” Dunfield added.
What’s next for Toronto FC’s Designated Players?
It remains to be seen whether TFC president Bill Manning will officially announce the new head coach and the decision regarding Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi’s future with the club. According to reports, Insigne has attracted interest from Saudi Arabia, which doesn’t come as much of a surprise as he recently hired a new agent after parting ways with the agent that secured his move to MLS.
Meanwhile, Bernardeschi has reportedly been in contact with Bologna regarding a return to the Italian Serie A , which would signal the end of his tenure in Toronto. According to Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian has interest in joining Bologna but his salary is the final hurdle in the potential move.
