The Buffalo Bills completed a perfect preseason Thursday night, staging a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers 28-27 at Highmark Stadium.
Buffalo entered the final minutes trailing 27-20, but quarterback Shane Buechele led a clutch game-winning drive. With 3:20 remaining, the Bills marched down the field and took the lead when running back Ian Wheeler scored on a two-yard touchdown run. Buechele then connected with Dante Pettis on a two-point conversion to give Buffalo a 28-27 advantage with just over a minute remaining.
The Bills’ defense came up with the final stop, preventing Pittsburgh from mounting a late response and securing the victory.
Buechele was a major factor in the comeback, throwing for 196 yards and directing the offence during the decisive final drive. Dante Pettis also made important contributions, including a key 16-yard reception that helped start the winning possession before drawing a crucial 40-yard pass-interference penalty.
The Steelers had controlled much of the contest and built a 27-17 lead in the fourth quarter, but Buffalo refused to fold. The Bills first cut the deficit with a field goal before the defense forced consecutive punts and made a critical fourth-down stop to give the offence one final opportunity.
With the win, the Bills finished the 2026 preseason with a perfect 3-0 record and will now turn their attention to the regular-season opener against the Houston Texans on Sunday, September 13.
