In a preseason game highlighted by the return of 2019 NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard

Leonard received a warm ovation from the Toronto crowd as he played his first game in a Raptors uniform since leading the franchise to its first NBA championship in June 2019.

Toronto’s offence clicked early, the starters established control, and the bench helped maintain the commanding advantage.

The result was encouraging for head coach Darko Rajaković, although New York rested several of its leading players after playing the previous night

Leonard headlines Toronto’s offensive explosion

Kawhi Leonard — 21 points, 5 rebounds

Leonard led all scorers with 21 points in just 17 minutes.

He shot 6-for-12 from the field, including 4-for-8 from three-point range, providing an immediate glimpse of what his scoring and perimeter defence could mean for Toronto.

His minutes were managed, with his appearance limited to the first half as the coaching staff continues to integrate him into the lineup.

Scottie Barnes

19 points · 6 rebounds · 4 assists

Barnes complemented Leonard’s scoring with playmaking and interior pressure, giving Toronto another productive option in its starting lineup.

RJ Barrett

17 points · 4 rebounds · 3 assists

The Mississauga native contributed balanced scoring and playmaking as Toronto built its substantial lead.

What the win means for Toronto

1. Leonard’s integration is underway. His return gives Toronto an opportunity to build chemistry between a proven postseason scorer, Barnes and Barrett.

His workload will need to be managed carefully as he regains game rhythm.

2. The starting lineup has significant scoring potential.

Toronto demonstrated how multiple offensive threats can put pressure on opposing defences, although the Knicks’ missing starters mean this performance should be viewed in context.

3. Preseason development remains the priority. Rajaković can use the final exhibition games to refine rotations, establish defensive responsibilities and assess the team’s bench depth.

What’s next

October 15: Raptors at New York Knicks — preseason.

October 16: Raptors at Detroit Pistons — preseason finale.

October 21: Chicago Bulls at Toronto Raptors — regular-season home opener.

Final report

Toronto’s 148–98 victory was highlighted by Leonard’s return, Barnes’ all-around contribution and Barrett’s scoring.

The Raptors controlled the game early and had enough separation to rest their starters well before the final buzzer.

The next test is whether Toronto can translate that offensive rhythm into consistent execution against stronger opposition once the regular season begins.

Raptors Report: Toronto 148, New York 98. Kawhi Leonard is back in a Raptors uniform, and the countdown to the regular season continues.
