The Copa America tournament just took off in Atlanta. The first match was between the reigning champs Argentina vs Canada.
It marks the first match that Alphonso Davies captained Canada. Canada began as strong as possible with two shots from outside the box in the 2’nd and 23’rd minute of the match. Argentina kept steady pressure on Canada making multiple shots but none of them converting to a goal. Canada’s best shot was by Davies in the 43rd minute but the ball just went above the top right corner. The first half ended 0-0.
The second half began with a goal in the 49’th minute by Argentina’s J.Alvarez by shooting the ball past the keeper in the bottom right corner. Canada’s striker Jonathan David tried to head the ball in the back of the net in the 67th minute but unfortunately missed. The match went on with Argentina having the most possession and converting a second goal in the 88’th minute by Martinez.
The reigning champions sure did have a great 2-0 win to start off Copa America. Canada will be looking to win their next game against Chile on the 29th of June.
