It was certainly a match that carried excitement throughout. Canada hoped to secure third place in their first appearance in the competition, but Uruguay defeated them in a penalty shootout, 4-3.

Uruguay opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a stunning goal from Bentancur off a set-piece play. Canada equalized in the 22nd minute with an overhead kick that sailed over the keeper, making it 1-1. Then, in the 80th minute, Canadian striker Jonathan David made a beautiful long-range shot from outside the box to put Canada ahead, 2-1. It appeared that the match was decided, but in the 92nd minute, during stoppage time, a well-placed cross into the box allowed Luis Suarez to equalize for Uruguay, making it 2-2 and forcing the match into penalty shootouts, where Uruguay emerged victorious, 4-3.

Attention now shifts to tomorrow to determine the winner of the Copa America Cup 2024, as Argentina faces Colombia in the final match.
