Chris Bassitt (9-13, 4.30) shut down the New York Mets as he helped lead the Toronto Blue Jays to a 6-2 victory, tying the series at one game apiece.
Bassitt was spectacular, tossing 6 innings, allowing just one run over five hits, walking one and punching out eight to earn his 10th victory of the year. The Mets sent David Peterson (9-1, 2.75) to the mound. The red-hot lefty struggled, lasting 4 1/3 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) over eight hits, two walks and two strikeouts, taking his second loss of the year.
The Mets struck first in the top of the 1st, grabbing a 1-0 lead on an RBI single from Brandon Nimmo.
The Blue Jays got that run back, tying the game at one on a Leo Jimenez RBI single in the 2nd inning.
Toronto would score more in the bottom of the 3rd. An RBI double from Alejandro Kirk gave the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead. Davis Schneider followed up with a two-RBI triple to extend the Toronto lead to 4-1. Then an RBI single from Joey Loperfido would give the Blue Jays a 5-1 lead later in the inning.
Jose Iglesias would score on a passed ball in the top of the 7th to cut the Toronto lead to 5-2.
But Spencer Horwitz would give the Blue Jays that run back with an RBI double in the bottom half of the 7th.
Chad Green (4-5, 2.85) would enter the 9th inning and bounced back from a series of bad appearances to shut down the Mets and help the Jays secure the 6-2 victory.
Bowden Francis (8-4, 3.72) will toe the rubber for the Blue Jays as Sean Manaea (11-5, 3.43) will do so for the Mets as the Jays will look to take the series finale on Wednesday night.
