The Toronto Blue Jays mounted a spirited comeback but came up just short, falling 6-4 to the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. The loss snapped the momentum from Toronto’s series-opening victory and came despite a late offensive rally.
Boston jumped out to a 4-0 lead thanks to early home runs from Anthony Seigler and Ceddanne Rafaela. The Blue Jays were held in check early before finally breaking through in the seventh inning.
The turning point came when Kazuma Okamoto crushed a three-run home run, his 23rd of the season, cutting the deficit to one and setting a new record for home runs by a Japanese-born MLB rookie. Toronto tied the game in the eighth on an Andrés Giménez sacrifice fly, but Boston answered immediately with two runs in the bottom of the inning to reclaim the lead for good.
