The Toronto Blue Jays announced that they sent Isiah Kiner-Falefa along with cash considerations to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for prospect Charles McAdoo.
McAdoo, 22, was selected in the 13th round of the 2023 MLB Draft out of San Jose State University. He began 2024 with High-A Greensboro, batting .336 with a .975 OPS, including 9 homers and 52 RBIs. After 60 games in High-A, McAdoo was promoted to Double-A Altoona. In 27 games, he’s batting .269 with an .838 OPS, 5 homers and 11 RBIs.
The #12 ranked prospect in the Pirates’ system is known for his good bat to ball skills, his plate discipline, and his above average bat speed. With the glove, McAdoo spent his time at San Jose State predominantly as a second baseman, but has played mostly third base in his professional career.
Kiner-Falefa, 29, signed with the Blue Jays this past off season, agreeing to a two year, $15 million deal, and this year he has been a pleasant surprise to many Toronto fans. Although many thought he would take on a utility role like he has with the other teams in his career, IKF found himself performing quite well as the Blue Jays’ everyday third baseman.
In the 82 games he’s played in Toronto, IKF is batting .292 with .758 OPS, along with 7 homers and 33 RBIs. IKF has spent the last month on the 10 day IL with a left knee sprain. He began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo before he could appear in Toronto again, and although he is still on rehab, he could make his Pittsburgh debut by the end of the week.
