Week 18 delivered major playoff implications across the Canadian Football League, with Calgary winning a crucial Western Division battle, Hamilton ending Ottawa’s winless run, and the BC Lions making a statement in Toronto.

The weekend also tightened the race for the remaining playoff positions.

Calgary Stampeders 37, Saskatchewan Roughriders 31

Calgary pulled off one of the weekend’s biggest victories, defeating Saskatchewan 37–31 in a critical Western Division matchup.

Vernon Adams Jr. powered the Stampeders’ offence with 242 passing yards, while Calgary’s offence produced enough big plays to overcome a strong Saskatchewan challenge.

The victory moved Calgary to 8–8 and kept the Stampeders firmly in the playoff race.

The Roughriders dropped to 8–7, missing an opportunity to clinch a playoff berth.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats 34, Ottawa REDBLACKS 16

Hamilton defeated Ottawa 34–16 on Friday night, giving the Tiger-Cats their fifth victory of the season.

After Ottawa jumped out to an early lead, Hamilton’s offence took control and scored 31 of the game’s final 34 points.

Harrison Frost and Kenny Lawler were among the key contributors as Hamilton pulled away in the second half.

Ottawa fell to 0–15, while Hamilton improved to 5–11.

BC Lions 24, Toronto Argonauts 17

The BC Lions defeated the Toronto Argonauts 24–17 at BMO Field, snapping Toronto’s four-game winning streak.

Sean Whyte was the star, connecting on all eight of his field-goal attempts and accounting for every BC point.

His eight field goals established a new Lions franchise record and left him one short of the CFL single-game record.

Toronto quarterback Nick Arbuckle threw touchdown passes to Makai Polk and David Ungerer III, but the Argos could not finish their final drive.

BC’s defence stopped Arbuckle twice at the one-yard line, including a decisive third-down stop with 11 seconds remaining.

BC improved to 9–6, while Toronto fell to 9–7.

Winnipeg at Montreal

The final Week 18 game featured the Winnipeg Blue Bombers visiting the Montreal Alouettes in a critical Western playoff race matchup.

Montreal entered the game 11–3 and undefeated at home, while Winnipeg came in at 7–7 and desperately needing a victory to remain in the playoff hunt.

Week 18 Playoff Impact

The biggest story coming out of Week 18 is the increasingly crowded Western Division playoff race.

West Division

Edmonton — 11–4

BC — 9–6

Saskatchewan — 8–7

Calgary — 8–8

Winnipeg — 7–7

BC’s victory over Toronto strengthened its position in second place, while Calgary’s win kept the Stampeders alive. Saskatchewan remains in the playoff picture, but the Roughriders missed an opportunity to clinch.

In the East, Toronto remains in playoff position despite the loss, while Montreal continues to battle for first place. Toronto has already secured a home playoff game.

Week 18 MVP

Sean Whyte — BC Lions

Whyte was virtually unstoppable against Toronto, going 8-for-8 on field goals and scoring all 24 of BC’s points.

His performance was one of the most remarkable kicking displays of the 2026 CFL season.

Biggest Takeaway

The road to the 113th Grey Cup is getting crowded.

With the regular season entering its final stretch, BC has strengthened its position, Calgary has revived its playoff hopes, Saskatchewan remains in contention, and Winnipeg is fighting to stay alive.

Toronto’s loss also means the Eastern Division race remains important heading into the final weeks.

Week 18 was a reminder that every possession and every point now matters as the CFL playoff picture takes shape.
