The round of 16 has come to an end with Romania playing the Netherlands and Albania vs Turkey just concluding.
The Netherlands had a commanding 3-0 win against Romania. In the 20th minute, Cody Gakpo ran into the corner of the box and with a right-footed shot put the ball past the keeper to make it 1-0. In the 83rd minute, with a beautiful pass, Malen flicked the ball in to make it 2-0. Malen played brilliantly with a run from halfway across the field, cutting past defenders to score a brace for the Netherlands, moving them to the quarter-finals of the competition.
Austria vs Turkey was a close match. The first goal came in the 1st minute by Merih Demiral, shooting it into the goal from a set piece to make it 1-0 for Turkey. Demiral made it 2-0 with a header from another corner kick in the 59th minute of the match. In the 66th minute of the match, Gregoritsch made it 2-1 for Austria with a right-footed shot. Austria kept pressing but unfortunately could not make a comeback, advancing Turkey to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024.
Now the stage is set for the Quarterfinals of the European Championship 2024. The first two matches will be Spain vs Germany and Portugal vs France on the 5th of July, followed by England vs Switzerland and Netherlands vs Turkey on the 6th of July.
