Toronto Keeps Playoff Push Alive
TORONTO — Inter Toronto delivered one of its most important victories of the Canadian Premier League season Sunday, defeating Vancouver FC 3–1 at York Lions Stadium to keep its playoff hopes firmly alive.
Inter Toronto controlled much of the contest, held a 57–43 possession advantage, and turned a strong first-half performance into a three-goal cushion before Vancouver mounted a late response.
First Half
Toronto struck first in the 39th minute.
Luca Accettola finished a move set up by Steffen Yeates, giving Inter Toronto a 1–0 lead heading into halftime. The goal rewarded Toronto for its pressure and attacking initiative.
Vancouver struggled to generate sustained possession, while Toronto remained dangerous through Accettola and its midfield.
Second Half
Toronto doubled its advantage just five minutes after the restart.
In the 50th minute, Carlos Guzmán scored to make it 2–0, with Tomasz Skublak providing the assist.
The home side then moved three goals clear in the 56th minute, when Vancouver goalkeeper Callum Irving put the ball into his own net. The own goal gave Toronto a commanding 3–0 advantage.
Vancouver finally found an answer in the 72nd minute.
Thomas Bah scored for the Eagles, with Luca Toomey credited with the assist, cutting the deficit to 3–1.
That goal gave Vancouver renewed hope, but Inter Toronto defended its advantage through the final stages and secured three valuable points.
