The Toronto Maple Leafs announced a major overhaul of their sport performance department on August 3, appointing Andy O’Brien as Vice President of Sport Performance. O’Brien, best known as the longtime performance coach of Sidney Crosby, will oversee the club’s strength and conditioning, sport science, nutrition, injury rehabilitation, and mental performance programs.
As part of the restructuring, the Maple Leafs also hired:
Jason Martin – Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
Josh Crouse – Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach
Dr. Craig Slaunwhite – Director of Health and Performance Integration
Dr. Jordan Shallow – Human Performance Consultant
General manager John Chayka said the hires are intended to provide players with every possible resource to maximize performance and improve health throughout the season. The changes are part of Toronto’s broader organizational overhaul following the 2025–26 campaign.
