The Toronto Maple Leafs completed a trade with the San Jose Sharks, acquiring defenceman Matt Benning, a conditional third-round 2025 draft pick and a 2026 sixth-round pick.
Toronto’s two picks from the Sharks originally belonged to the Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche.
Liljegren was a healthy scratch in nine of Toronto’s 10 games played. The Maple Leafs drafted Liljegren in the first round, 17th overall in 2017.
Matt Benning has played in seven games this season, has nine hits, and has 10 blocked shots. In 464 NHL games, he has 17 goals, 85 assists, and 102 points. Benning will bring a physical game to the Maple Leafs lineup.
