OLYMPICS
Highlights from a memorable weekend!
The U.S. men’s basketball team won gold, beating the French national team at home. LeBron James and Kevin Durant played well, but Stephen Curry’s four 3-pointers in the last three minutes sealed the 98-87 win. This marks the U.S.’s fifth straight men’s Olympic basketball gold medal.
The U.S. women’s basketball barely edged out France to win the gold in a thrilling 67-66 win. As time expired, France’s Gabby Williams stepped on the line to hit a two-pointer rather than a three-pointer, giving the US women its 61st straight Olympic win and eight straight gold medals.
The U.S. women’s national soccer team also won gold by defeating Brazil 1-0.
The games were not without controversy, however, when U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles was awarded a bronze medal but then had it rescinded by the Court of Arbitration for filing the inquiry after the one-minute deadline.
The final medal count:
U.S. 126 medals (40 gold, 44 silver, 42 bronze)
China 91 medals (40 gold, 27 silver, 24 bronze)
Great Britain 65 medals (14 gold, 22 silver, 29 bronze)
Tom Cruise wrapped up the games with some pretty awesome stunts to get us excited for 2028 in LA.
