Rangers win game 3

PHOENIX, AZ – The Texas Rangers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 in Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night at Chase Field.  The win gives the Rangers a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-seven series as they look to win it all for the first time in franchise history.  Corey Seager hit his fifth home run of this postseason in the effort, and the Texas bullpen – particularly Jon Gray – supplied a strong outing after starter Max Scherzer left with back tightness before the bottom of the fourth.  Then, Rangers’ right fielder Aroldis Garcia left with an injury of his own in the eighth inning after appearing to hurt his side on a swing.

The Rangers are now 9-0 on the road this postseason.  The nine road wins – two against the Rays, two against the Orioles, four against the Astros, and now one against the Diamondbacks – are the most ever by a team in a single postseason.  They’ll try to remain unbeaten away from home Tuesday night in game 4.

Scherzer pitched well, allowing no runs on two hits with one strikeout in 3 innings of work before going out with the injury.  Prior to taking the mound for the bottom of the fourth, his back tightened up, and he was unable to continue.  The future hall of famer’s frustration was visible and understandable.

That wasn’t the end of bad health news for the victorious Rangers. The 2023 postseason’s leading slugger and ALCS MVP Adolis Garcia was forced to leave in the eighth inning due to “left side tightness”.  He appeared to suffer the injury on a fly out swing in the top of the eighth.

For the Diamondbacks, Ketel Mare set an MLB postseason record with an 18-game hit streak.  On Monday night, he extended that record breaking streak to 19 games with a line-drive single in the sixth inning that Marcus Semien almost snagged.

While the health of Scherzer and Garcia looms large, The Rangers will remain focused on winning another one in Arizona on Tuesday night in game 4 of the Fall Classic.  The first pitch is scheduled for 8:03p EST.  The Starting pitchers haven’t been announced yet.  The game will air on Fox and FS1.
