The Boston Red Sox jumped on the Toronto Blue Jays early as they took the third of five games by a score of 6-3.
Yariel Rodriguez (1-5, 4.40) took the ball for the Blue Jays, as Cooper Criswell (5-4, 4.41) did so for the Red Sox. Rodriguez threw 5 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out three, taking his sixth loss of the year. Criswell lasted just 3 1/3 innings, allowing one run over five hits, walking three and striking out none, leaving the game with a no-decision.
The Red Sox attacked right out of the gate, striking first in the bottom of the 1st. Jarren Duran lead off the inning with a solo homer, giving Boston a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, a two RBI single from Masataka Yoshida would extend the Red Sox’s lead to 3-0.
The Blue Jays would get on the board in the top of the 3rd, scoring one run on a sacrifice fly from Addison Barger.
Boston would score more in the bottom half of the 5th. David Hamilton gave the Red Sox their fourth run of the game with an RBI single. Tristan Casas followed up Hamilton with an RBI double, giving the Red Sox a 5-1 lead. Wilyer Abreu would then give Boston their sixth run with an RBI single of his own.
Rookie sensation Will Wagner would reach a milestone in the top of the 6th, hitting a solo homer for the first of his big league career, cutting the deficit to 6-2.
The Blue Jays would get one more run in the top of the 9th, when Daulton Varsho hit a solo shot to deep centre field, cutting the Red Sox lead to 6-3. But unfortunately for Toronto, it wasn’t enough, as they dropped game three in Boston.
Chris Bassitt (9-12, 4.41) will be on the bump for Toronto, while Boston will send Brayan Bello (11-6, 4.95) as the Blue Jays will look to take their series against the Red Sox with a win on Wednesday night.
