The first two matches of the European Championship 2024 round of 16 have begun today. They were between Switzerland vs. Italy and Germany vs. Denmark.
Switzerland dominated most of the match against a very dull performance from the reigning champions, Italy. After a perfect buildup from Switzerland, with a pass from Vargas to Freuler who put it into the bottom left corner in the 37th minute to make it 1-0. Switzerland kept pressing, and a wonder shot from Vargas in the 46th minute, where he shot the ball into the top right corner of the net, sealed Switzerland’s road to the quarter-finals of the European Championship.
Germany played their match against Denmark with class, attacking from every angle. The best chance for Denmark was a goal in the 50th minute by Joachim Anderson, which was then disallowed by VAR. In the 51st minute, a penalty was awarded to Germany which Kai Havertz converted to make it 1-0. After constant pressing from Germany, in the 68th minute of the match, Musiala made a speedy chase for the ball and put it past the keeper to make it 2-0 for Germany and move them to the next round.
Now we wait for tomorrow’s knockout matches which are England vs. Slovakia and Spain vs. Georgia. Things are getting closer and the brackets are closing in on determining the ultimate winner of the UEFA European Champions 2024.
