The Toronto Raptors fought hard Friday night on the road but came up short, falling 121 to 115 against the Denver Nuggets on March 20, 2026 at Ball Arena in Denver.
This one had the feeling of a strong road win for Toronto for much of the night. The Raptors played one of their best offensive quarters of the game in the third and carried a solid lead into the final stretch. Denver responded with a late surge behind their stars and flipped the game in the fourth quarter.
Toronto started the night with good pace offensively and kept the game competitive through the first half. The Raptors then exploded in the third quarter, scoring 41 points and converting every two point shot they attempted in the period. That run gave Toronto a 94 to 85 lead heading into the final quarter and had the Raptors in a strong position to steal a road victory.
The Nuggets answered when it mattered most. Denver outscored Toronto 36 to 21 in the fourth quarter and used a decisive run late to pull ahead and close out the game.
Even in the loss, the Raptors had some strong individual performances.
Jakob Poeltl led Toronto with 23 points and 11 rebounds, delivering a double double and finishing efficiently around the basket. Brandon Ingram added 19 points and helped keep the offense moving during key stretches. RJ Barrett chipped in with 18 points and continued to attack the rim throughout the game.
Denver’s star players made the difference late. Jamal Murray led the Nuggets with 31 points and scored several crucial baskets during the fourth quarter comeback. Nikola Jokic contributed 22 points along with 9 assists and 8 rebounds in another all around performance. Tim Hardaway Jr. had a big night from beyond the arc with 23 points while knocking down seven three pointers. Aaron Gordon added 16 points and made several key plays during Denver’s late run.
The frustrating part for Raptors fans is how close this one was. Toronto played well for most of the night and had the lead entering the final quarter. Denver simply executed better in the closing minutes.
Where the Raptors Stand in the East
After the loss, Toronto sits at 39 wins and 30 losses on the season. The Raptors remain firmly in the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference as the regular season begins to wind down.
First place in the East is still several games away. Teams like Boston and Milwaukee have spent most of the season near the top of the standings. Toronto would need a strong winning streak combined with losses from those teams to realistically close that gap.
The bigger focus now is playoff positioning. Every win and loss matters at this stage with teams battling for seeding and trying to avoid slipping down the standings.
What Needs To Happen
The Raptors have shown in recent games that they can compete with strong teams. The challenge is closing those games out.
Consistent scoring from RJ Barrett, Brandon Ingram, and Scottie Barnes will remain key. Interior presence from Jakob Poeltl continues to be extremely important, especially against bigger teams like Denver.
Late game execution will determine how dangerous this team can be once the playoffs arrive. Toronto proved in this game that they can build a lead against a top Western Conference team. Finishing the job in the fourth quarter is the next step.
There is still time to build momentum before the postseason begins. Raptors fans are hoping this group can find that extra gear in the final stretch of the season.
