HAMILTON, ON — September 27, 2026 — The defending Calder Cup champion Toronto Marlies erased a two-goal third-period deficit before defeating the Hamilton Hammers 5–4 in a shootout Sunday afternoon at TD Coliseum.
First Period
Toronto opened the scoring when Landon Sim redirected a point shot from Philippe Myers.
Hamilton answered on the power play through Cam Berg, sending the teams into the first intermission tied 1–1.
Second Period
The Hammers came out flying in the second.
Daniil Prokhorov gave Hamilton its first lead just 45 seconds into the period. Toronto responded with Vinni Lettieri, who buried a cross-ice one-timer to make it 2–2.
Hamilton quickly regained the lead through Hunter Drew, before Gleb Veremyev extended the advantage to 4–2 with a forehand-to-backhand finish.
Third-Period Comeback
Toronto’s comeback was led by Logan Shaw.
Shaw scored twice in the third period, wiping out Hamilton’s two-goal advantage and tying the game 4–4 with just over 13 minutes remaining.
Neither side could find the winner during regulation, sending the preseason contest to overtime.
Overtime & Shootout
The five-minute overtime period produced no goals.
In the shootout, Brendan Brisson and Logan Shaw scored for Toronto, giving the Marlies a 5–4 shootout victory.
Goaltending
Joshua Kotai stopped 14 of 16 shots during his 40 minutes in net.
Henrik Tikkanen played the third period and made nine saves on 11 shots.
