Game Summary

Toronto began its title-defence campaign with a 3–1 defeat against Rochester. 

The Marlies generated offensive opportunities throughout the contest but struggled to convert those chances into goals, while the Americans capitalized on key scoring opportunities to establish control. 

Both teams opened the game with competitive, physical hockey. 

Toronto and Rochester traded chances while the goaltenders kept the scoreboard unchanged through the opening 20 minutes.

The Marlies looked to establish their offensive rhythm, but Rochester defended its zone effectively, limiting Toronto’s ability to find the back of the net.

Second Period

Rochester broke the deadlock at 10:05 when Riley Fiddler-Schultz scored on the power play.

 Trevor Kuntar and Carson Meyer collected the assists.

The Americans doubled their advantage at 18:51. Jake Richard finished an even-strength scoring opportunity, with Gavin McCarthy and Thomas Bordeleau recording assists.

Toronto entered the second intermission trailing by two goals, leaving the Marlies with work to do in the final period.

Third Period

The Americans extended their lead at 13:06 when Conor Sheary scored an even-strength goal, assisted by Matthew Peca. 

The goal put Rochester in a comfortable position as Toronto attempted to mount a late comeback.

The Marlies finally broke through at 18:09. Henrik Rybinski scored on the power play, with Luke Haymes and Vinni Lettieri picking up the assists.

Toronto’s late goal provided a positive moment, but the comeback attempt came too late to change the outcome. Rochester held on for the 3–1 victory

Henrik Rybinski: Scored Toronto’s only goal, converting on the power play late in the third period.

Luke Haymes: Recorded an assist on Rybinski’s goal.

Vinni Lettieri: Added an assist as Toronto finally found its scoring touch late in the game.

Riley Fiddler-Schultz: Opened the scoring with a second-period power-play goal.

Jake Richard: Scored Rochester’s second goal, helping establish a two-goal advantage.

Conor Sheary: Added an important third-period goal that restored Rochester’s three-goal cushion
