Philadelphia delivered a historic UFC night on Saturday, August 15. At Xfinity Mobile Arena, Islam Makhachev successfully defended the UFC welterweight championship, defeating Ian Machado Garry by unanimous decision.

Makhachev’s wrestling and grappling proved decisive. Garry had success with his striking—particularly in the third round—but Makhachev repeatedly used takedowns, positional control and ground work to dictate the fight. A second-round head kick also dropped Garry.
The victory gave Makhachev his 17th consecutive UFC win, breaking the UFC record previously shared with Anderson Silva.

Mackenzie Dern def. Gillian Robertson — unanimous decision

Dern successfully made her first defense of the UFC women’s strawweight championship, controlling much of the contest with superior grappling and takedowns. Canadian Robertson rallied somewhat in the final round but couldn’t overcome Dern’s earlier dominance.

Moment of the night
Jalin Turner was spectacular. He needed only 39 seconds to stop Kaue Fernandes, earning a $100,000 Performance of the Night bonus. Charles Johnson, Dustin Stoltzfus and Jeremiah Wells also received $100,000 bonuses.
UFC 330 was all about Makhachev’s continued dominance. Garry showed toughness and flashes of championship-level striking, but Makhachev’s wrestling remained the difference. With a record 17-fight UFC winning streak, the Russian champion strengthened his claim as one of the greatest fighters of his generation.
