Argentina 3, Switzerland 1 (after extra time)
Defending champions Argentina booked their place in the World Cup semifinals after a dramatic extra-time victory over Switzerland in Kansas City.
Argentina struck first in the 10th minute when Alexis Mac Allister powered home a header from a Lionel Messi corner kick. Switzerland stayed composed and found an equalizer in the 67th minute through Dan Ndoye, setting up a tense finish.
The match turned in the 73rd minute when Swiss striker Breel Embolo was sent off following a VAR review that changed the referee’s decision, leaving Switzerland to play with 10 men. Despite the disadvantage, the Swiss defense and goalkeeper Gregor Kobel forced the game into extra time.
Argentina finally broke through in the 112th minute as Julián Álvarez curled a superb shot into the net after being set up by substitute José Manuel López. Argentina added another late goal to secure a 3-1 victory and eliminate a resilient Swiss side.
The victory sends Argentina into the World Cup semifinals, where they will face England on July 15 for a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final.
