With NHL free agency one month away, news and rumours keep coming out about which players the Toronto Maple Leafs are interested in signing.
Jonas Siegel of The Athletic reports that the Maple Leafs want to sign goaltender Laurent Brossoit to form a tandem with Joseph Woll for next season.
Brossoit, 31, had a great season with the Winnipeg Jets, going 15-5-2 with a GAA of 2.00 and a save percentage of .927 while backing up Connor Hellebuyck.
Brossoit would be a great option for the Leafs. He is a Stanley Cup champion with the Vegas Golden Knights, where he split starts with Adin Hill during their run to the finals in 2023.
Adding a veteran like Brossoit to tandem with Joseph Woll would be a good option, as having someone who has won the cup and knows what it takes could help relieve some of Woll’s pressure.
Following that report, James Mirtle of Athletic says that Vancouver Canucks forward Dakota Joshua is reportedly open to rejoining the Maple Leafs.
“I’ve heard some people say that Joshua wouldn’t want to be in Toronto because he was a draft pick, and he played four years in college and walked. I’m told that’s not true. He would be interested in Toronto. The reason he didn’t sign with Toronto when he was a pick, was he thought it would be hard to break into the forward group at the time, given all the good young forwards they had at the time, and he thought going somewhere else he would get more of an opportunity in the NHL faster. That’s why he made that choice.” said Mirtle.

Joshua, 28, was drafted by the Maple Leafs in 2014. He never played a game for the team, as the Leafs traded him to the St. Louis Blues in July 2019.
Since the trade, Joshua has had a promising NHL career with the Vancouver Canucks, and he is set to hit the free-agent market.
Joshua had a career year this season, playing in 63 games. He scored 18 goals and 14 assists for 32 points. He is the type of player Brad Treliving would like to add to the Maple Leafs.
According to Evolving Hockey, Joshua’s next deal is reported to be for two years and around $2.049 million.
