The Toronto Blue Jays fell 4–3 to the New York Yankees in 10 innings Sunday at Rogers Centre, ending Toronto’s three-game series sweep bid. 

The Jays and Yankees were locked in a tight pitchers’ duel before the game exploded late.

Dylan Cease delivered an excellent start for Toronto, striking out 10 over 6⅓ innings and allowing only two hits. He also reached 200 strikeouts for the season

Toronto tied the game in the ninth inning, overcoming a 2–1 deficit and forcing extra innings.

In the top of the 10th, Ben Rice crushed a two-run homer off Braydon Fisher to put New York ahead 4–2. It was Rice’s 33rd home run of the season. 

Andrés Giménez brought Toronto within one with an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th, but the Jays couldn’t complete the comeback. 

Toronto dropped to 61–65 after the loss and remains in a tight American League playoff race.
