Toronto FC produced a remarkable late comeback at BMO Field on Wednesday night, rallying with 10 men to earn a dramatic 3-3 draw against Charlotte FC.
Charlotte struck first through Aloko in the eighth minute, but Toronto answered six minutes later when Markus Cimermancic scored his first career MLS goal. The visitors regained the lead in the 20th minute through Toklomati and took a 2-1 advantage into halftime.
Toronto’s challenge became even more difficult early in the second half when Walker Zimmerman was sent off.
Charlotte then extended its lead to 3-1 in the 58th minute on a goal by Kessler, leaving TFC facing an uphill battle.
But the Reds refused to quit. Dániel Sallói gave Toronto hope with a goal in the 77th minute before Niklas Dorsch completed the comeback with a sensational 90th-minute equalizer.
The result was a major show of resilience from Toronto, which played the closing stages with a man down and appeared headed for defeat after falling behind by two goals.
With the draw, Toronto FC moved to 4-7-9 and climbed to 11th place in the Eastern Conference, sitting three points outside the playoff line.
