The Toronto Marlies announced today that the hockey club has signed forward Reese Johnson to a two-year AHL contract and forward Jackson Kunz and goaltender Timofei Obvintsev to one-year AHL contracts.

Johnson, 28, appeared in 47 games this past season with the Marlies, setting career-highs in goals (6) and points (15) in a single season. He skated in 15 postseason games and registered one goal before capturing the Calder Cup championship. The 6’1”, 205-pound forward has recorded 17 points (7 goals, 10 assists) in 144 career regular season NHL games split between Minnesota and Chicago while also collecting 52 points (19 goals, 33 assists) in 185 career regular season AHL games with Iowa, Rockford and Toronto.

Kunz, 24, split this past season between the Abbotsford Canucks and the Kalamazoo Wings (ECHL). He recorded 22 points (12 goals, 10 assists) in 36 games with Kalamazoo and also appeared in 22 games with Abbotsford, picking up three assists. Prior to his professional career, the 6’3”, 227-pound forward skated in 128 games with the University of North Dakota, registering 24 goals and 21 assists and captured the NCAA (NCHC) Regular Season Championship in 2023-24.

The Grand Forks, North Dakota native was originally drafted in the fourth round (113th overall) by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Obvintsev, 21, appeared in six games with Gornyak-UGMK (VHL) this past season, posting a 1-3-0 record with a 2.86 goals against average and a .899 save percentage. The 6’3”, 179-pound goaltender also appeared in 34 career games with the Krasnaya Armiya Moskva (MHL) over the past four seasons, recording a 15-14-0 record with a 3.00 goals against average and a .910 save percentage.

The Yekaterinburg, Russia was drafted in the fifth round (157th overall) by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2024 NHL Draft.

The Toronto Marlies are the primary development program for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Since 2005, 89 players have dressed for the Maple Leafs following their first appearance as a Marlie, including Artur Akhtyamov, Luke Haymes, William Nylander, Jacob Quillan, Morgan Rielly, Marshall Rifai, Ryan Tverberg and William Villeneuve.
