The Toronto Blue Jays delivered a statement victory Wednesday, routing the Cleveland Guardians 11–0 to pull closer in the American League Wild Card race.

Guerrero breaks out

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was the offensive star, going 3-for-4 with five RBIs. He launched a three-run homer during Toronto’s huge second inning and added an RBI double and RBI single.

Toronto erupted for six runs in the second inning, turning the game into a rout early. Josh Smith later added a solo home run in the eighth.

Cease dominates

Dylan Cease provided the pitching performance Toronto needed, throwing six scoreless innings, allowing only four hits while striking out four and issuing no walks. He improved to 10–5.

Toronto’s bullpen completed the shutout, while the Jays finished with 15 hits overall.

Wild Card implications

The victory was particularly important because Cleveland entered the series ahead of Toronto in the crowded Wild Card race. After Wednesday’s result, the Guardians’ advantage over Toronto, Baltimore and Texas was reduced to 1½ games.

Bottom line: Guerrero’s five-RBI explosion and Cease’s dominant start gave Toronto one of its biggest wins of the season—and kept the Jays firmly in the playoff chase.
