How the race unfolded
Lando Norris started from pole and initially controlled proceedings, but the race changed dramatically when an early Virtual Safety Car created a strategic opportunity for Antonelli and Verstappen. Norris was unable to capitalize on the timing of the stoppage and subsequently lost the lead.
Antonelli then produced a controlled drive at the front. Verstappen kept the pressure on, but the Mercedes driver maintained enough of a cushion to claim his eighth Grand Prix victory of 2026.
Norris recovered to third but could not find a way past Verstappen in the closing stages.
