Arthur Fils captured the biggest title of his career on Sunday, defeating American Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 in the final of the 2026 Cincinnati Open.
The 22-year-old Frenchman produced a dominant opening set before Tiafoe responded with an impressive second-set performance. However, Fils regained control in the deciding set, overwhelming Tiafoe with aggressive baseline tennis to complete a remarkable 6-0 final set and secure his first ATP Masters 1000 championship.
The victory capped an outstanding tournament for Fils, who defeated Alex de Minaur in the round of 16, Thiago Agustín Tirante in the quarter-finals and Flavio Cobolli in the semi-finals before overcoming Tiafoe in the championship match. Tiafoe, meanwhile, reached the final after defeating Lorenzo Musetti in the quarter-finals and Brandon Nakashima in the semi-finals.
Cincinnati produced several major surprises throughout the men’s tournament. Novak Djokovic was eliminated in his opening match by Tirante, while top seed Alexander Zverev fell to Tommy Paul. Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime was also knocked out by Tiafoe in the round of 16.
