Blue Jays expected to bring Spencer Horwitz to Oakland

The Toronto Blue Jays could be getting some much needed offence from one of their star studded prospects.

Spencer Horwitz is expected to be called up from Triple-A Buffalo to join the Blue Jays in Oakland for their three game series starting Friday.

Horwitz has been hitting the cover off the baseball with the Buffalo Bisons, batting .335 with a .970 OPS to go along with 22 doubles and 38 RBIs over 57 games.

The top Jays prospect has also been spending his time in Buffalo as a utility player. Originally a first baseman, he has still played first but in addition to that, he has been playing left field and second base.

Horwitz made his big league debut with the Blue Jays in 2023, going 10 for 39 (.256) with seven RBIs and a .734 OPS in 15 games.

With Horwitz getting called up, the Blue Jays will have to option someone to Triple-A Buffalo in order to free up the 26th roster spot.

The Oakland Athletics have also announced their starter for Friday evening, sending Hogan Harris (0-0, 3.14) to the mound, Chris Bassitt (6-6, 4.13) will get the start for Toronto as he faces one of his former teams.
