The Toronto Blue Jays opened their three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays with a 10–5 victory at Tropicana Field.

Kazuma Okamoto hit his 25th home run, setting a Blue Jays rookie record.

Josh Smith added a home run.

Alejandro Kirk also went deep as Toronto’s offense produced 17 hits.

The Blue Jays scored early and continued to add pressure throughout the game.

Toronto’s offensive explosion was especially impressive against a Tampa Bay club that entered the series among the American League’s best.

Toronto’s victory was a major response after losing the series finale to the Yankees on Sunday in a 10-inning game.

The Blue Jays couldn’t have asked for a much better start to the Rays series. The combination of Okamoto’s record-setting power and a 17-hit attack gave Toronto an important road win and plenty of momentum heading into Game 2.
