Coming off a gruelling doubleheader, the Toronto Blue Jays took on the Baltimore Orioles in the third of their four games on Tuesday.
The Blue Jays sent Chris Bassitt (8-9, 3.71) to face off against Corbin Burnes (10-4, 2.38) for the Orioles. Bassitt threw 4 innings, allowing five runs on nine hits, walking one and striking out three, taking his tenth loss of the year. Burnes lasted 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs over four hits, walking three and striking out seven to earn his eleventh win of the year.
The scoring got started early for the division leading Orioles, striking in the 1st inning. Anthony Santander’s RBI double drove in Gunnar Henderson to give Baltimore a 1-0 lead.
Ramon Urias lead off the bottom of the 3rd with a bang, hitting a solo homer to extend the Orioles’ lead to 2-0. The Blue Jays would get two outs after the Urias homer, but Ryan O’Hearn stepped up and drove in two with a single to give Baltimore a 4-0 lead.
Toronto would get one run back in the top half of the 4th, scoring on an Alejandro Kirk sacrifice fly.
Urias would take that run back again in the bottom half, driving in one run with an RBI single.
An inning later, Santander would get on the board again with a solo shot of his own, giving the O’s a 6-1 lead.
Daulton Varsho would get one more run for the Blue Jays, driving in a run with an RBI double to cut the deficit to 6-2.
The score would remain the same as the Blue Jays fell to the Orioles on Tuesday night. Tomorrow, the Blue Jays will look to leave Baltimore with a series split as they call up Paolo Espino (0-0, 7.71) from Triple-A Buffalo to start against face Grayson Rodriguez (12-4, 3.82) and the Orioles.
